(Singapore) – Asian contemporary dance company, Maya Dance Theatre, is set to embark on another artistic endeavour entitled GREY, which will be presented in Singapore from 19-22 June 2013 at Singai Tamil Sangam's rooftop, 02 Kampong Kapor Road. Tickets are priced at SGD17.00 (Adult) and SGD15.00 (Concession); and available at www.mayadancethetare.org.
Grey is an intermediate colour; a colour between black and white; a neutral or achromatic colour - a colour in transition!
Just like the colour grey, Maya Dance Theatre's production GREY explores the convergence of two different dance forms: traditional Asian dance and modern contemporary. GREY presents the crossroads for both the dance forms to come together on a liminal plane to pave the way for exploration and eventually create a new experience!
"... Maya Dance Theatre has built a distinctive identity over the years with its cross-cultural collaborations and integration of Asian traditional dance forms with contemporary dance." - The Flying Inkpot, Singapore
Featuring the works of three choreographers – Kavitha Krishnan, Shahrin Johry & Cynthia Ling Lee (USA), with artistic direction by Kavitha Krishnan and music composition by Damon Soards (UK/ Singapore), GREY will be touring the nearby countries from 19-22 June 2013 in Singapore, 28-29 June 2013 in Penang, Malaysia, 5-6 July 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and 16-18 August 2013, New York, USA.
A unique aspect of GREY will be its presentation in Singapore on the rooftop of a building in Little India! GREY will be presented in Singapore from 19-22 June 2013 (Wed-Sat), in a community setting on the rooftop of a non-profit Indian culture and heritage organization located in Serangoon Road (Little India).
"We had always talked about doing our production outdoors... And when this opportunity came about, we jumped at it. It's not every day that one gets to perform on a building rooftop in the locale of Little India." quotes Imran Manaff, company manager of Maya Dance Theatre.
