Maya Dance Theatre has presented a number of productions in Singapore and overseas featuring its unique blend of Asian contemporary dance vocabulary.

Summary

Bophana” presented by Maya Dance Theatre Ltd is a movement-based adaptation of Asia-In-Theatre’s 2000 SITA.  The story of “Bophana” highlights a woman telling a story to future women, a maternal journey of epic proportions. The collaborators- director, playwright, dancers and choreographers will deconstruct the script with lots of discussion/improvisation work. It is dance theatre, whereby various explored movements, lights, sounds and theatrical elements try to play with equal importance in the production.

Apsara Asia and Maya Dance Theatre are back with our popular programme, Beyond Bollywood – The Rhythms of Dance, as part of FEED YOUR IMAGINATION 2013 series organized by The Esplanade and National Arts Council

BEYOND BOLLYWOOD-The rhythms of Dance explores the key elements of ethnic Indian art forms: music and dance; specifically rhythms and Mudras – hand gestures and body movements, of Indian dance. The performance will show audiences how rhythms and movements are interlinked  and how beats – the basic unit of time in music, form the basis of dance. They will also demonstrate the various Mudras and explain what each Mudra means and symbolizes. The audience will also be encouraged to attempt the different hand gestures and leg movements with guidance from the dancers.

Summary

The third and final installation of the End of the Beginning series, ATMA breathes new life into the existence of Ravana. King of Lanka and Rama’s arch nemesis of the Hindu epic, Ramayana). Through the transformation, defeat, redemption & Moksha of Ravana’s soul, ATMA explores the Karmic journey of Man’s soul.

Summary

Maya Dance Theatre, will be making its performance debut in United Kingdom as part of the celebrated Accidental Festival in May 2013. The company, which recently celebrated its fifth (05th) anniversary in 2012, has been selected to represent Singapore at the festival through their performance, PATH, an Asian contemporary dance production, at the Accidental Festival from 09th May–12th May 2013 at The Roundhouse Theatre, Camden, London.
