Walking Shoes: Guide the Root, Grow the Connection.
We are a weekly initiative pairing volunteers with Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID) to turn everyday walks into a journey of digital empowerment and independence.
The Challenge
Moving Past the Digital Divide
In a fast-paced digital world, navigation is a necessity, not a luxury. Without digital travel literacy, many Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID) remain dependent on others for basic mobility. This reliance limits their access to jobs, social circles, and the wider community, effectively keeping them sidelined.
Our Mission
Navigating Independence, One Step at a Time
We pair dedicated volunteers with PWID participants for weekly walks, turning routine travel into a shared journey of discovery. Together, we focus on two core goals:
- Digital Autonomy Mastering tools like Google Maps, real-time bus apps, and digital payments so participants transition from passive passengers to active navigators of their own lives.
Meaningful Connection: Breaking down social barriers and challenging stereotypes through genuine, one-on-one friendships built on equal footing.
